Bluebeam Revu allows for the creation and use of digital signatures to validate the authenticity of digital documents. Digital signatures act like a stamped seal, providing assurance that the document has not been altered since creation.
When signing PDFs with digital signatures in Revu, users are given the option to provide additional information, such as a reason for signing, which will appear visually on the signature. Revu provides 6 different reasons that can be applied to the digital signature, all of which are available from the Reason dropdown menu in the Sign window.

However, there may be times that you need to display a different “reason” on your digital signature that isn’t provided in the Reason list. Although there is not a way to add custom reasons to this Reason list in Bluebeam Revu, there are other ways to have a custom reason appear on the digital signature.
This article will outline the process of having a custom “reason” display on a digital signature in Bluebeam Revu 20. These examples are taken using the 64x Bluebeam Revu 20 eXtreme edition, but these functionalities are available within all versions of Revu.
To place your digital signature on the page, select Tools > Signature > Sign Document. Define a digital signature field by clicking and dragging on the PDF, then click on the signature field to open the Sign window. If you don’t already have a digital signature created within Bluebeam Revu, please refer to this article for guidance.

Once you’ve logged in to your Digital ID, a preview of the digital signature’s appearance will appear in the Preview window. Under the Options section, further information can be placed on the digital signature by selecting a Reason or typing in Location or Contact Info.
If you need to have a Reason appear on your digital signature that isn’t available from the Reasons list, you can utilize the Location or Contact Info text fields to type in a custom reason instead. To do this, you will first want to change your signature’s appearance by selecting Edit in the Appearance section.

In the Signature Appearance window, you will first want to uncheck Labels. This will make it so that the information added to the signature displays without labels identifying where the information was entered. As we will be utilizing either the Location or Contact Info text box to display a Reason, we will want to have these Labels removed from the signature.
Next, customize which fields appear on the signature using the options in the Text section. I will uncheck Reason and check Location so that the Reason text will no longer display and the Location text will display instead. The Contact Info field can be used instead of Location if desired.
Once these settings have been applied, select OK to return to the Sign window.

Now, the Location text field can be used to type in a custom reason for signing. Once entered, select OK to sign the document. The custom reason will appear on the digital signature as if it were chosen from the Reason list.
