Bluebeam Revu comes stocked with a useful stamp tool, which can add a “rubber stamp” comment on a drawing. Revu comes preloaded with a library of commonly used text stamps, such as “DRAFT” and “FOR REVIEW” which can be quickly placed on PDFs to convey important project information. Stamps, when placed on a PDF, will act similarly as a markup, and as such, will have editable appearance properties and show up on the Markups list.
It may be useful to create your own custom stamp tools, especially if you are planning on reusing them often. Some of the most popular common custom stamps that can be made are stamps featuring your company’s logo, your own signature, or any other information you’d like to place over and over again.
In addition, Bluebeam Revu allows you to add Dynamic Text to stamps. Dynamic text is automatically updated when the stamp is placed in a PDF, allowing you to update your stamp with the date it was placed or with the author who placed the stamp.
This article will show you the basics of creating and using Stamps within Bluebeam Revu, including those with Dynamic Text. These examples are taken using the 64x Bluebeam Revu 2019 eXtreme edition, but these functionalities are available within all versions of Revu.
With Revu open, navigate to the Tools dropdown menu and select “Stamps” to access the library of premade stamps that Revu has to offer.
To create your own custom stamp, navigate down the menu to the Create Stamp option.
A dialogue box will open with the preliminary options available for your stamp. From here you can adjust your Stamp’s subject, which will determine its name within the dropdown menu, and other options regarding your Stamp’s appearance. Select OK to continue.
A document tab will open with a specified space for you to edit you Stamp. From here, you can add any Images, Markups, Snapshots, or text to your Stamp and adjust the size of your Stamp by using the blue control points.
I will be making a Stamp of my company’s logo so that I can use it over and over again easily. To do this, I will add an Image to my Stamp by using the Image Tool, found in the Markups section of my Tools dropdown menu. I will select From File to upload an image from my computer.
I’ll find the Image I need on my computer, and place it within my Stamp’s editing space.
I now want to add some Dynamic Text to my Stamp, and I’ll do this by adding a Text Box markup to my Stamp, and selecting the Dynamic dropdown menu that appears below. This Dynamic dropdown menu will only appear after you have placed a Text Box within your Stamp space.
Several Dynamic Text options will appear in the dropdown, including options to add User, File Name, and Time variants to your Stamp. Each of these options will fill in dynamically once the Stamp is placed on a PDF.
For my Stamp, I’m going to select User and Date so that my Stamp will automatically tell me which User placed the Stamp on the PDF and the date that they placed it.
The Dynamic Text options will appear as shown on your Stamp. This text will fill in automatically once the Stamp is placed. Once you are finished with your Stamp, go up to the File dropdown menu and Save your Stamp.
Now, you will be able to find your newly made Stamp listed in the under the Stamps menu in your Tools dropdown menu. It will be listed by the Subject you set for your Stamp when you first created your Stamp.
Once you select your Stamp, you can now place it on a PDF. A Stamp will be placed just by clicking once in the area you want to put your Stamp. If you set any Dynamic Text, that text will automatically be filled in.
As I had chosen to add User and Date Dynamic Text options, my Stamp’s text filled in with the name of the User who placed the Stamp, along with the Date that they placed it.
